John's working career has been a continuation of being a problem solver and an innovative individual contributor on projects spanning a range of industries within the domain of managing change. Over the years, he has endeavored to follow the Golden Rule and create a family environment that enhances the success of family members.
In his initial post-retirement years, John devoted time to civic-related activities primarily through the family-held social enterprise, Urban Patch LLC. He serves on multiple advisory boards and remains active in groups and programs centered on improving the lives of members of the community.
John initiated and oversaw the formation of Moore Heritage Projects Corporation in January 2021, initially to pursue a USDA grant, and has since led the organization through its growth into a fully operating 501(c)(3) public charity.

Initiated and oversaw formation of the corporation. Leads all strategic and operational activities.
Consultant Statistician — Eli Lilly and Company (2001–2010)
Created and reviewed requirements for analysis datasets and reporting programs for neuroscience clinical trials. Lead statistical analyst on a critical regulatory response project. Active in the Lilly Stat Analyst Forum as 2010 Co-chair.
Senior Statistical Programmer — PharmaNet/i3 / INVentiv Health (2010–2013)
Created and peer-reviewed SAS programs for clinical study reports and regulatory responses for neuroscience trials.
Principal Consultant — J. Moore Consultants, Inc. (1996–2001)
Independent pharmaceutical consulting; clients included Monsanto/Searle, Fujisawa, and Parexel. Also had assignments on two agricultural research farms in Indiana.
Early Career (1971–1996): Electric and gas utilities; bank accounting; 12 years in the health insurance industry (BCBS); systems consulting. Partner in Moore Help Secretarial Service, located in the historic Madame C. J. Walker Building.

John has maintained a Family History website since 2008, served as Vice President of the Central Indiana Genealogy Society, and is a founding member of the Indiana African American Genealogy Group. He completed the Master Gardener Program at Purdue Extension and has attended the American Community Gardening Association Conference. He also obtained a USDA Farm Number for several urban lots and secured contracts to grow food benefiting food-secure recipients.
